Mission Statement

The Mission of the Olean Housing Authority’s public housing program is to provide safe, sanitary, and decent housing at a cost affordable to persons of low income.

Where is your main office located, and where do I drop off my application?

We are located on the first floor of the Olean House, which is between the Beef-n-Barrel Restaurant and the Municipal Building on North Union Street.

Where are the apartment located?

We have 306 Low-Income and Elderly apartments in the City of Olean.

Our family apartments are located on Alder St., N. 15th St., and Martha Ave.

Our elderly apartments are located on W. Spring St., Seneca St., and in the Olean House (2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors).

Apartment assignments will be based on availability.

Do all locations have laundry facilities?

Yes, each complex has a laundry room.

Washer/dryer hookups are NOT available in apartment units. PORTABLE washer/dryer units are NOT permitted. 

 

How long does it take to process my application?

It usually takes two to three weeks to process however if you have lived out of state or have not fully completed all parts of the application it may take longer.

What happens to my application if it's approved?

It will be placed on a waiting list and you will be notified when we have an apartment available for you to see.

What documents do I need to apply?
  • Fill out all appropriate sections of the application.

 

What documents do I need once approved?
  • Proof of income
  • Birth certificate(s)*
  • Social Security Card(s)*

* for each person on the housing application.

What utilities are included?

We pay for heat, water, and sewer at our family locations.

We pay for heat, water, sewer, and electricity at our elderly locations.

Telephone and Cable will be at the tenant’s expense.

How much will my rent be?

Rent is based on your income, it’s 30% of your gross income (amount before taxes or deductions).

How much is my first month's rent?

That will be determined after we have reviewed your application.

If my application is rejected, what is my next step?

Every applicant is entitled to a hearing to determine why the application was rejected.
